Ross Simms passed away on June 22, 2016 at the age of 65 years. Ross was born in St. Anthony Bight on November 5, 1950 to Myrtle and Alex Simms. He moved to St. Anthony in 1968 and married Rita Hedderson, the love of his life, on May 5th, 1978. He went to work in the kitchen at the hospital in 1970 where he worked for 45 years and made many, many great lifetime friends. Ross loved to fish; his favourite place was out on the point down to Upper Brook. He spent many days in the woods, cutting wood to keep his family warm through the cold winters. His favourite place was Fishing Point with his binoculars looking at the whales and icebergs. He was a very quiet man and had very few words, but was loved by all. Ross leaves to mourn wife (Rita); son Dawson (Kara); daughter Lorrie (Marlon); grandchildren Cameron, Victoria, Brooklyn, Hunter, and Aaron; sisters, Jessie, Elsie, Bessie (Edgar), Juanita, Nellie (Keith), and brother Hayward; sisters-in-law, Judy (Elias), Cassie (Karl), and Iris; brothers-in-law Ernest (Francis), and Ross (Pansy). He was predeceased by parents Alex and Myrtle, and brothers-in-law John Carter, Elijah Parrill, and Gordon Powell, and Bruce Barney, mother-in-law Elsie Hedderson, and father-in-law Ambrose Hedderson. The memorial service took place at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M.
