Viola King

KING – Viola May - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Viola Mae King. Vi was born on May 2, 1937, the third daughter to Oscar and Mildred Peterson and grew up in Pennant, Sask. In 1955, Vi met and married Garnet King and moved to Stewart Valley, where they raised 4 children. Vi loved being on the farm. Harvest was probably the time she loved best. She was an accomplished seamstress. From blue jeans to fancy dresses to Halloween costumes, she was able to do it all. Always a crafter, Vi excelled at any project she took on. 4 Seasons ceramic plates and wooden butterflies adorned many newlyweds’ homes, thanks to her. Vi was a definite people person. Whether it was cards at Benny’s, a basement full of ladies painting, or the weekly auction, she surrounded herself with people who loved to laugh and tease as much as she did. She had a wide and varied circle of friends. Vi is predeceased by her husband, Garnet King, her son, Russell King, her parents, Oscar and Mildred Peterson, and her sister Agnes Peltier. She leaves to mourn her sister, Hazel (Ron) Philp, children Vickie Mockford (Dwight), Steven King ( Marlene) and Pam Hilton (Kevin), the grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Brad (Erin) Mockford, Calvin Mockford, Jennifer (Tyler) Wright, Teri (Chad) Thomson, Andrew King, Jeremy King, Taya King and Frankie Hilton and the great grandchildren who she would have loved to know Lila, Carina and Sorin Mockford, Scarlett and Indyana Wright and Brayden and Greyson Thomson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations to the “Ali Rajput Endowment” also known as “Parkinson Research Fund” can be made. A special thank you to the staff at the Herbert Integrated Facility for the love and exceptional care you gave to mom over the last 6 years. You treated her like family with dignity and respect. A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
