Dolores Irene Gillis (nee Spiess), age 83 of Ponteix, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully in Ponteix on June 27, 2016. The Funeral Services were held at Notre Dame d'Auvergne Catholic Church on Monday, July 4th at 2 pm. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Roy Carson, Greg Gillis, Jeff Gillis, Lucas Shoesmith, Jesse Aikens and Michael Gillis. Honorary pallbearers are the remaining grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as the many nieces and nephews and friends who held a special place in Dolores' heart. Interment took place at the Ponteix Cemetery. Dolores, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, is survived by her children: daughter Lois (Stan) McCrae of Grandview Beach, son Brian (Janie) of Swift Current, son Steve (Sue) of Ponteix, daughter Debbie (Chuck) Shoesmith of Fernie, BC, daughter Dana (Randy) Aikens of St. Albert, AB, son Clint (Carolyn) of Fiske, and daughter Trina (Alieu Fatty) of Regina; 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; sister Carm Diacon of Moose Jaw, brother Larry (Barbara) Spiess of Lethbridge, AB, brother Gerry Berry of Ajijic, Mexico, sisters in law Astrid (Holly) Spiess, Bonnyville, AB and Susan Spiess of Swift Current; countless nieces and nephews and dear friends. Dolores was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1997. Dolores was born in the Val Marie area, and after her marriage to Jim in 1952, made her home in the Ponteix area for the next 65 years. Dolores (or Dol as many knew her) loved her family and friends without question or judgement and always made time to make each and every one feel special. She made everyone feel welcome and there was always room for one more at her table. Dolores loved life and kept busy doing things she loved - gardening, baking, sewing and crafts, singing, playing cards, walking, visiting friends and family and being active in her community as a member of the Legion, the CWL, and the interfaith choir. Dolores was dedicated to her family, her faith and her community. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Lemieux Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
