It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ryan MacNeil (nickname “Crave”), 25, of Glace Bay, N.S., on July 5, 2016 with his family by his side, after a short, but courageous battle with brain cancer.
Ryan was born Aug. 27, 1990 the son of Arlene MacIntosh (Willie) and the brother of Michael MacNeil (Taylor), Glace Bay.
Ryan graduated from Glace Bay High School and continued on to receive diplomas in Carpentry and Environmental Health and Safety Technician, from the Nova Scotia Community College and METI.
Ryan recently celebrated a momentous milestone when he proposed to the love of his life, Courtney Vienneau; Ryan and Courtney had many plans for their life together.
At the time of his death, Ryan was employed with Marco Construction Group as a Safety Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent and recently was promoted to Superintendent. He enjoyed going on hikes, going to dinner and to the movies with Courtney. Ryan also enjoyed spending time with his friends, playing gentleman’s hockey, golfing, wake-boarding, sea-dooing, and spending time with his dog Roxy. In Ryan’s earlier years he was involved in Glace Bay Minor Hockey and Caledonia Police Boys Club.
Ryan will be remembered as an outgoing, fun-loving, caring and compassionate young man. He had a wonderful sense of humour and this continued throughout his illness. He was a gentleman who always thought of others before himself.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Arlene MacIntosh (Willie); his brother, Michael MacNeil (Taylor) and fiancée, Courtney; grandparents, Michael and Carol MacIntosh; aunt, Michele (Vince) Jessome and uncle, Allan (Cathy) MacIntosh and the rest of his family. Ryan was fortunate to have had a very close relationship with cousins, Brad Jessome and Alison (Jessome) Lewis, Hannah and Owen MacIntosh and many close friends.
Ryan was predeceased by grandparents John and Annie MacNeil and cousin, Michelle Martell.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Visitation will occur Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 6-9 p.m. The funeral will be held Monday, July 11th, 2016 at 11 a.m., Holy Cross Parish, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ryan’s memory can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center Patient Comfort Fund, the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia, or the SPCA.
