Passed on: July 2nd, 2016

Louis Theodore Dupmeier: February 17, 1915 – July 2, 2016
On Saturday July 2, 2016, Louis Dupmeier of Swift Current, Saskatchewan and formerly of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at Cypress House with his son by his side. Louis was born during WW1 and served as a Medic in WW2 where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. During his 101 years, Louis lived an incredible life and had an amazing amount of life experiences. Throughout his life, Louis was a man of many trades. He was a Soldier, truck driver for MacDonald’s Consolidated, lumberyard man for the Co-op and, most of all, a proud Saskatchewan farmer. Louis was also a ranch hand for a number of years for White’s Ranch, which he considered to be his second home. During the Dirty 30’s Louis and Jim Malone were in charge of driving 60 horses from south of Shaunavon to North Battleford where they would spend the summers because there were no rations in the south. They would then head back to Shaunavon in the autumn – using the ferry to cross the South Saskatchewan River. After these ranching adventures and prior to the War, Louis married the love of his life and soulmate, Hannah Malone. Louis and Hannah eventually took over the family farm located south of Shaunavon where they remained until their retirement to Shaunavon in the late 1970’s. After Hannah’s death, Louis relocated to Swift Current where he spent the last 12 years. Louis had many interests and hobbies throughout his 101 years including: hunting; curling; bowling; playing cards with friends; travelling with Hannah; and making homemade wooden Christmas presents that his family will forever treasure. Left to live Louis’ legacy are his son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Darlene Dupmeier; his grandchildren Angelina and David Wall (Brielle, Shaye and Braelyn), Heather and Kerry Obrigewitsch (Grayson and Maryn), and Melissa Dupmeier and Tim Clothier; as well as Darlene’s daughters Tammy Knight, Stacy Smith, Lisa Berg and their families. Louis is also survived by one sister Simone Golem. Louis was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Madeline Dupmeier, who immigrated from Belgium in the early 1900’s; wife Hannah; and siblings Dan, Herman, Marcel, Madeline, Rose, and Gertrude; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous other relatives. Louis was also predeceased by two special young men, George Orser (Arlene) and Larry Malone (Linda), who Louis and Hannah raised as if they were their own sons. Louis was devout in his faith and believed in Heaven through the strong Grace of God. Jesus was his saviour and his strength. Louis will be dearly missed and cherished by all who knew him. Donations may be made in Louis’ memory to the Salvation Army. Funeral Service was held Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from Shaunavon Royal Canadian Legion Hall with Funeral Celebrant Bernadette Schneider officiating. Urn Bearers were Brielle Wall, Shaye Wall, Braelyn Wall, Grayson Obrigewitsch and Maryn Obrigewitsch. The eulogy was presented by Angelina Wall, Heather Obrigewitsch and Melissa Dupmeier. A Royal Canadian Legion Honor Guard and tribute was presented. A Private Family Interment took place at Veteran’s Memorial Gardens at Hillcrest Cemetery in Shaunavon. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
