We, the family of Joseph Allan Bennett, regret to announce his passing on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born July 31, 1929, in Sydney, he was a son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Hannem) Bennett.
Until retirement, Allan worked as a railroad train operator for Sydney Steel. He was a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier.
Allan is survived by his son, Allan (Susan), Sydney; brothers, Tommy (Mary) and Bill (Ray), Sydney; grandchildren, Marilyn, Mark, Linda, Barbara and Carol; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Sloan, Maddison, Colton and Cameron; daughter-in-law, Susan, Sydney.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anna (Mombourquette); son, Wayne; sisters, Katherine ‘Kay’, Mildred ‘Moon’, Lillian ‘Doods’ and Mary; brothers, Gordon and Lloyd ‘Lee’.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier on Tuesday 10 a.m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
