It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Effie Catherine O’Meara. Mom passed away with her loving family at her side, at the Glace Bay Hospital on July 13, 2016.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Catherine (Campbell) Walker.
Over the years Mom worked many jobs until she found her passion in catering. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 78, where she held a position of president for many years and was proudly active in all aspects of her Legion. Effie also enjoyed playing dice, darts and bingo.
She is survived by sons, Ronnie (Joan) and Gary (Grace), daughters Ann Louise (Barry) and Donna (Bob) Her proud grandchildren are Sheri Lynn, Ronnie, Nancy, Michael, Mark, Jonathan, Derek, Steven, David, Lindsey, Jenna and Amanda. She also enjoyed her great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Mason, Jillian, Tyler, Aimee, Jocelyn, Kate, Victoria and Robyn.
Besides her parents, her husband Gerald predeceased her. Mom was the last surviving member of four sisters and three brothers.
Visitation for Effie will be Monday, July 18, 2016 from 6-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 19, 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating with interment in the parish cemetery.
