Elodie Delimina Brisebois
(nee Hamel)
On July 14, 2016, God came to get another angel, Elodie Brisebois, to reunite with her beloved Gerry. Elodie was born in Medicine Hat on January 21, 1925, and moved to Gravelbourg as a child. She trained at Normal School in Moose Jaw as a teacher and started her brief teaching career at Vindictive School. She worked tirelessly as a farm wife and mother, baking bread, hosting large meals. She raised her 8 children without running water or electricity for the first 17 years on the farm. Constantly contributing to her church and community throughout her life, she was named volunteer of the year in her early 80’s. A go-getter to the end.
Her values were Faith, Food, and Family. She was always a formidable woman with a tremendous work ethic, which was balanced with a great sense of humor and playfulness. She especially liked to start family water fights and she loved to play cards and Tri-Ominoes. She started quilting in her later years, providing each and every one of her family with quilts, from baby quilts to blue jean quilts to precious star wars comforters. Giving, never taking, accepting, never judging, loving, always loving, she was always a teacher. She leaves 8 children to mourn her: Lorraine (Dennis) Fuchs, Margo (Jim) Styan, Paul (Mary) Brisebois, Roger (Sheila) Brisebois, Janine Brisebois, Eugene (Mona) Brisebois, Louise (Greg) Rogoschewsky, Gisele (John) Eustace. She also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 5 brothers and sisters and their spouses, and 6 brothers- and sisters-in-law and spouses, and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Prayers were held on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., and Funeral Mass on Monday, July 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., both at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral, Gravelbourg, SK. Interment took place at the Meyronne Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Elodie to the Meyronne Catholic Cemetery, c/o Laurie Turgeon, Box 35, Kincaid, SK S0H 2J0, were greatly appreciated.
