Thomas O'Brien

Passed on: August 2nd, 2016

Passed very peacefully away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, surrounded by all of his loving family. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Joanne, son Chris (Lori), daughter Tracy (Ted), most precious treasure Erin, and grandson Matthew, his brothers Dan and Tony, sisters Alice (Tony), Rose, and Anne, step-sisters Eleanor, Faustina, and Patsy. Predeceased by his mother Annie, his step-mother Nora, his father Tobias, and his sisters Helen (Peter) and Marie (Dalton). He is blessed to have a massive circle of friends in Corner Brook, where he lived and loved for so many years, and in North River, where he was born and raised, lived most of his life, and raised a family. Family and friends thank Tom/Dad/Poppy so much for all the love and all the laughs (many, many), Sunday dinners, stews, bread, toutons, Chris' post-hunting scoffs, jigs & reels and Johnny Cash, rackets, the "audiences" with Tracy and friends, Erin's lifetime supply of Caramilk, a wave to every car on his walks, all the fishing, Mom's roses (even though he liked them more than she did), the years of guitars and banjo and accordion, his quick remarks, and for always and hilariously greeting visitors with "When are you leaving?" The house is a little too quiet now. There is not enough gratitude in the world to express how thankful the family is for the love, support, and kindness shown to The O'Briens over the past 18 months by friends and by the staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. Special loving thanks to Dr. Renee Lester, Dianne, the incredible nurses and doctors, and especially to Dr. Emmanuel Jones. You all made everything easier. Visitations are August 4 at 7-9 PM, and August 5 at 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM at Moore's Funeral Home in Bay Roberts. Funeral will be held at All Hallows Church, North River on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 2 PM. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations in his memory made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
