It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Alex Thomas Robinson age 81, on Saturday September 17, 2016 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with Parkinson and Alzheimer disease. Alex was born in North Sydney, February 24, 1935, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Evelyn (Quirk) Robinson. He was employed as a stevedore with CN Marine, later Marine Atlantic for 40 years. Alex devoted any spare time he had to helping others. While a Town Councilor of Ward 4 North Sydney for nine years, he did everything within his power to help the people of North Sydney. He was a member on several council committees such as, recreation, police, fire services, industrial and planning committees, where he worked to help bring The North Sydney Mall and the Industrial Park to North Sydney to create jobs. He was a volunteer fire fighter with North Sydney for ten years, a third degree member of Knights of Columbus council #5109, a faithful catholic and devoted member of St. Joseph Church, where he volunteered his time. He was a member of the Board of Directors with the North Sydney Credit Union for many years. Alex is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eunice (MacNeil) Robinson; sons, Gerard (Roberta)(Cindy), Terry (Helen), Bruce (Audrey), Trevor (Nancy); daughters, Darlene (Paul) Marks and Kimberley (Eddy) Parks, also surviving are his 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild; by his brothers, Joe (Karen) Robinson, Willie (Priscilla) Robinson and Tommy Robinson; his sisters, Leona (Dave) Tobin and Agnes (Greg) Gallant; son-in-law, Earl Buffett.
Besides his parents Alex was predeceased by his daughter, Wanda Buffett; grandson, Michael and brother, George Robinson. The family offers special thanks to the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, who loved and cared for Alex in his last three years. They are special people, especially the staff of MacDougall Court. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson or Alzheimer societies. Online condolences to the family may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
