It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Christena Pheobe Burbine, age 98, of River Hebert, NS on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Shemogue, NB, she was a daughter of the late Adolph and Eva (Melanson) Landry.
Christena's life was devoted to raising her children and being a farm wife. She loved her family, her many friends and her VON nurses. She also loved kittens, puppies and squeezing babies.
We all knew she had a passion for eating, especially sweets. When you visited Christena, you were guaranteed a strong hug and offerings of food.
She thought of her VON nurses and home care workers as extended family. A big hug to her special neighbours, Hope, Lola and Donald for your care and thoughtfulness.
Survived by her daughters, Dianne Burbine of Barronsfield, NS, Linda Wilvers (Lucien) of Redvers, Sask, Carol Armstrong (Frank) of Fredericton; sons, Roger (Charlene) of Yarmouth, NS; 8 grand children, Philip, Natasha, Amy, Kelly, Kim, Lori, Jana, and Neil; 11 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister-in-law Louise LeBlanc, Amherst, NS; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Wilfred in 1976, an infant daughter, Eva Mary, son Stanley; brothers Herman, Willie and Phileos.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, September 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 11 am at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, River Hebert, burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery, Minudie. All are invited to return to the church hall for a time of reception.
Donations in memory of Christena may be made to the St. Denis Cemetery, or the charity of your choice.
