LITTLE HARBOUR – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kathryn Doris Skoke Fortin, Little Harbour, announce her peaceful passing on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of Alex and Betty (Martin) Skoke, Stellarton.
She was the Cosmetology Instructor at NSCC, Pictou Campus, having previously owned and operated Skoke’s Hair Stylists, Westville. Throughout Kathy’s career, she employed, taught and mentored stylists, earning the respect of many. She was co-founder and teacher of St. Joseph’s Academy, Stellarton.
Kathy was passionate about her Roman Catholic faith; a defender, catechist, beloved Godmother to many, and most recently worked to ensure her parish Our Lady of Lourdes remained open. She gave freely of her time and talents, always helping others with a joyful heart.
Kathy’s devotion to her many nieces and nephews was immeasurable. She leaves a legacy of faith and love.
Besides her parents, Kathy will be sadly missed by her husband Paul Fortin; sisters, Margaret (John) Martin, Roseanne Skoke, Veronica (Chris) MacFarlane, all of Stellarton; Violet (Robert) Little, Westville; Elizabeth (Bill) Coleman, St. John’s, Nfld.; brothers, Alex (Patty) Skoke, Pacelli Skoke, all of Stellarton; aunt, Kay Vienneau, Trenton; uncle, Bert Martin, New Glasgow; brother-in-law, John Fortin (Brenda), New Glasgow; 32 nieces and nephews; 53 great-nieces and great-nephews; many cousins.
Kathy was predeceased by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and John Guy Fortin.
The family will receive visitors 2-8 p.m. today, September 23 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Requiem Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 24 in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Barrett Clare-Johnson, concelebrated by Father Allan J. Fogarty. Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Kathy’s family wish to thank her NSCC family and current, and past students, for their love and support.
Donations may be made in Kathy’s memory to St. Joseph’s Academy, Stellarton.
