Olson (nee Schmidt), Mrs. Violet (Vi) Florence, aged 82 years of Pennant, Saskatchewan passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at her home. Vi is survived by her daughters: Cheryl (Roy) Peterson of Mortlach and Caralee (Wayne) Laturnus of Pennant; granddaughters: Megan and Melanie Peterson, Charmaine (Mykhalo) Lyakhovetskyy, Chila Laturnus (Dustin); grandsons: Eric Laturnus (Natasha) and Evan Laturnus (Kaelyn); as well as Dessorey Fehr-Goddu (Colton); sister: Clara (Charlie) Ross of Calgary; sister-in-laws Alice (Horst) Hennig of Swift Current, Marion Olson of Kindersley and Tilly Olson of Calgary; brother-in-law Archie (Olga) Klassen and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years and love of her life, Edward (Eddie) Olson; parents, Lawrence and Margaret (Maggie) Schmidt; brothers Joe, Alphy and Ed Schmidt; sisters Marie Stinson and Irene Flemy; Frank and Agnes Olson; 4 brother-in-laws; 3 sister-in-laws; a niece; 3 nephews; a great niece. Vi passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was a lively, loving, caring Mom, Grandmother, Aunt and Sister and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Vi was born at the Lampman Hospital in Lampman on March 28, 1934, the sixth of seven children. When she was done school she moved to Regina where she worked as a telephone operator for many years. It was in Regina that she meet Eddie through friends in 1957 who was working to become an electrician. On November 16, 1959 they married and moved back to his hometown of Pennant where she resided until her passing. The man of her life for the past 9 years was her Shih Tzu, Waddles. Vi was one classy lady who enjoyed life and dearly loved her family and friends. She took great joy in Christmas, reading, watching tv and sitting out on her patio watching the birds as well as many, many other things. A funeral mass was held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the SPCA or to Dorie’s House in memory of Violet.
