John Thomas Compton

John loved to fish and spend time with his family, especially his son, daughter and grandchildren. His family was his life. During his life, John was a fisherman and worked many years at the Salt Fish Store. He also framed homes. John was also a member of the Orange Lodge, pillar of the community and a member of the Salvation Army Englee Corps Men’s Fellowship. Mr. John Thomas Compton of Englee passed away at the Lions Manor Nursing Home in Portugal Cove on the 17th day of September, 2016 at the age of 74 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires his daughter Kim (Christopher) Martel of Sudbury, Ontario; son Jamie (Sherry) of Paradise; grandchildren Samantha of Sudbury, Sabrina of Sudbury, Brandon of King’s Point, Rebecca of Springdale, and Kyle of Paradise; great-grandchildren Carter, Drayden, and Roman of Sudbury, and Mia, and Cooper of King’s Point; brothers Seymore (Miriam), Roland, Francis (Stella), Lloyd, and Allan (Angela), all of Englee, and Dave (Kathy) and George (Cheryl) of Cape Breton; sisters Evelyn Harklewood of Dayton, Ohio, Mable (Joe) Callahan of St. John’s and Mary (Frank) Spence of Nova Scotia as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Archibald and Minnie Compton. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Citadel in Englee from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the 21st day of September with Pastor Maurice Collins officiating. Interment followed at the new Salvation Army Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
