Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Barbara (Munroe) Boone, 81, Birch Grove passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Broughton on March 26, 1935, raised in Reserve Mines, Barbara was the daughter of the late Annie Katherine (Ferguson) Munroe and John James Munroe. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, George Eldon (Sonny) Boone. She is survived by her children, Eldie, Birch Grove, Glenda (Ross) Bennett, Reserve Mines, Cecil (Cathy), Glace Bay, Ross (Barb), Birch Grove; as well as siblings, Earl Munroe (Kathy), Coxheath, Beverly Moffatt, London, Ont., Judy , Reserve Mines, Diane (Joe) Campbell, Lawrencetown and sister-in-law, Lois MacLeod, Dartmouth. Barbara was blessed to have eight grandchildren, Ronnie, Courtney, Stacy, Erin, Joel, Matthew, Cecil and Lyndsay and eight great-grandchildren, Lily, Lacy, Kaidyn, Dexten, Dylan, Henry, Lilja and Sofia. Barbara was a very active and passionate community worker and was involved in the Birch Grove Rural Development Association until her passing. She had canvassed for years for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Lung Association. Her favorite pastimes were playing Bingo with her Bingo Buddies and couch-coaching the Toronto Blue Jays. We will all miss her tea biscuits and other baked goods and also the many festive family meals around her dining room table. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service with Rev. Allan MacLellan officiating at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. A reception will follow at Birch Grove Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Lung Association, or a charity of choice.
