MOUNT THOM – Frank Walter Roy, 69, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, September 30, 2016 in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Frank and Alma (Grist) Roy. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing instructor with the Nova Scotia Community College, Akerley Campus, Dartmouth.
In earlier years, Walter was Manager, Atlantic Collision Repair Centre, a division of Northumberland Pontiac after owning and operating Walter Roy’s Auto Body for many years. He was an active member of the National Technical Committee (NTC) for Skills Canada.
Walter’s passion was maintaining and traveling with the Sobeys 1924 Model TT, which was showcased in many parades and events throughout the Maritimes. He was a Past Master of Euclid Lodge No. 92, A.F. & A.M. and a member of Albion Lodge No. 5, A.F. & A.M., New Glasgow. Walter and Marilyn spent many enjoyable hours working in their gardens, traveling and doing home renovations. Above all, Walter loved his wife and family, leaving a rich legacy of great memories.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (nee: Fraser) Roy; children, Krista (David) Wilson, Stellarton; Melissa Marriott, Hopewell; Steven Munro (Leslie Copan), Stellarton; Erin Munro (Jamie Larsen), Vancouver, B.C.; Brandon Roy (Angela Reynolds), Stellarton; grandchildren, Harrison, Emily, Ainslie, Mya, Julia, Lucy, Jaidyn, Ellia, Sebastian and Keira; sister, April (Hugh) Hansen, Annapolis Valley; brothers, Glenn (Solange) Roy, Westville; Ian Roy, Westville; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Heather in infancy.
The family will receive visitors between the hours of 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
Albion Lodge No. 5 will conduct a Masonic service at 5:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
