It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alexander Thomas St. John, 70 of Sydney. Alexander passed away suddenly surrounded by his loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on September 30 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Leo Patrick and Emmaline (Piercy) St. John and the loving husband of Victoria (Lewis) who predeceased him in 2009. Alexander was a strong hardworking man and for over 25 years he worked in maintenance at Centre 200 until his retirement. He was loved by everyone that knew him and had many friends including those with 4 legs; he will be missed by them all. He enjoyed the simpler things in life, a good cup of coffee, collecting hats, watching movies and T. V. with Lexi, sketching, picking berries, scratch tickets and bingo. He was an avid fisherman and he also loved walking and exploring everywhere and everything, always creating new adventures for himself. Alexander loved life but most of all he loved his girls. He is survived by his daughters, Stacey (Daniel) St. John, Sydney, Patricia (Kent) Pero, Sydney Mines and Judy (Ronald)Arsenault, Oshawa, ON; grandchildren, Lexi, Mary Emma, Aaron, Adam and Alisha; great grandchildren, Ava, Johnathan, Tenisha and Lexi; brothers, Danny (Brenda), Truro, Patrick (Margie), Sydney and Joe, Sydney; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his one true love his wife, Victoria (Lewis); sisters, Sharon Nimchuck and Mary Halleran. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel Rev. Paul Murphy will officiate. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
