We, the family of George William Burrage, regret to announce his passing on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born February 24, 1923, in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Abraham and Sarah (Gracie) Burrage. George was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in various places overseas, including, Germany, France and Holland. He was employed as a truck driver and also at the Radar Base, Sydney. George was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Whitney Pier, where he also worked as a bartender. He is survived by his wife, Mary (MacIntosh); daughters, Rose Burrage, Sydney, Sarah Wiebe, Brandon, Man. and Georgina Chiasson, Saint John, N. B.; sister, Eunice (Albert) Melanson, Saint John, N.B.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; his extended MacIntosh family and close family friends, Dubba and Helen.
George was predeceased by his sons, Joe and George Jr.; brother, Leroy; stepbrother, Calvin MacLeod; granddaughter, Sherry Oakey.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Thursday 10 a.m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Whitney Pier Legion, Branch 128.
