Barley, Mary Evelyn – 83, Masstown, passed away October 3, 2016 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Great Village, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Eva (Simpson) Smith. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack W. Barley; daughters, Patricia Whiten, Toccoa, Georgia, Donna (Michael Newby) Durning, Truro Heights; daughter-in-law, Ann Barley, East Mines N.S.; sons, J. Stephen (Jodie), Kitchener ON, James (Kelly), Westville N.S.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Jean Gordon; sisters-in-law, Shirley Smith and Kay Stewart, all of Great Village N.S. She was predeceased by son Philip (2010), daughter- in – law, Susan (1998), brothers, Russell and Donald; brother-in-law, Vale Gordon; nephew, Ben Smith. Mary was a member of Masstown Community Association and Quilting group. She loved knitting, flowers and taking care of her family. A Graveside Service and Interment will be held at a later date in Masstown Cemetery. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
