HAUGHIAN – Beatrice Emma - In the quietness of the night and coziness of her bed, Beatrice (Bea) Emma (Thomson) Haughian passed away peacefully on October 4, 2016. She was surrounded by the love of her family and her most cherished books. Beatrice was born July 13, 1925 in Stockton Manitoba. At a very young age she moved with her parents to the family homestead in the Success area. After completing her schooling in Success, Beatrice entered the School of Nursing at the Yorkton General Hospital graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1950. Beatrice nursed in Cabri, Maidstone, Herbert and Swift Current, Saskatchewan. In 1955 she married Richard Haughian in Herbert. They settled in Swift Current and had two children, Judy and Jim. In later years they operated the lottery ticket kiosk at the Wheatland Mall. Left to cherish Beatrice’s memory are her devoted sister Violet Caswell, daughter Judy (Ivan Borkovic), son Jim (Aileen Esguerra), grandchildren Susan Borkovic, Sean Borkovic, Alexander Haughian, Marie Martell (Daryl), Kristina Bakanec (Kurtis). Godchildren Marylee Dean and Jeff Helland. Sister and brother in laws Marg Haughian, Bill & Gabrielle Haughian, Rosemary Haughian, Lorne Helland, Mary Osiowy and many other extended family. Beatrice was predeceased by her husband Richard (Dick) Haughian in 2002, parents James and Winifred Thomson, brother Tom (Lil) Thomson, father and mother in law Anthony and Susan Haughian. Brothers and sisters in law Albert Caswell, Frank Haughian, Rita (Ken) Dean, Jerry Haughian, Therese Helland, Jim Osiowy and nephew Mark Helland. Beatrice was a caregiver for her husband and her mother until their deaths. She was an avid reader, had a passion for the political world around her, a phenomenal memory and a quick intelligence. Beatrice was a valued friend and neighbour. There was a loyalty to her husband, family, neighbors and friends that never wavered. A celebration of Beatrice’s life was held at the First United Church in Swift Current on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Beatrice recognized the value of reading and the necessity for children to have access to books. Donations can be made in her name in the form of a children’s book (Grades K-8) or funds to the Library at Central School in Swift Current. Beatrice also had a love of animals; therefore donations can also be made to the Swift Current SPCA.
