It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Marilyn Jean Smith, age 69, at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa on October 16, 2016. Beloved mother of Dianna Morrow (Steve) of Rockland, ON and the proud Nanny of Zachary and Nicholas. She is survived by siblings, David (Margie) and Bruce (Laurel Beth) of Glace Bay and sister, Danette (Raymond) of Montreal. Marilyn also left behind her beloved furry friends, Piper, Pebbles and Honey. A native of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Marilyn was the daughter of the late David and Jean (Shepherd) Smith. She was predeceased by her brother, Alan. An independent spirit with a big heart, Marilyn was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church and UCW in Cumberland as well as the Royal Canadian Legion. Marilyn dearly loved to explore country roads and particularly enjoyed the seaside highways and byways of Cape Breton.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21 at St. Andrew’s United Church, 2557 Old Montreal Rd, Cumberland, ON. A private interment will be held at a later date at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens in Sydney, Nova Scotia. In Marilyn’s memory, donations may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation or St. Andrew’s United Church, Cumberland ON.
