It is with sorrow that we the family announce the passing of Catherine Elizabeth Potribny at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on October 19, 2016. Born in Benacadie West in 1926, to the late Achie MacDougall and Margaret (MacKenzie) MacDougall Warburton. Until recently she was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima C.W.L., the clan MacNeil Society, the Cape Breton Gaelic Society and the Cape Breton Gaelic Choir which she dearly loved. Kay was an employee of St. Rita’s Hospital for many years until retirement. A fluent gaelic speaker who shared her gaelic speaking knowledge to many in her community
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by her many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, John Potribny; sisters, Sadie MacNeil, Isabell MacNeil, Margaret MacDougall, ,Mary Lucy MacNeil, Annie MacLean Royal and Mary Francis Murphy; brothers, Malcolm MacDougall, Hector MacDougall and Michael John MacDougall. Visitation will be held Monday, October 24, 2016 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2016 at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River with Fr. Douglas Murphy officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
