Jean Carmel LeMoine (Power)

Born: March 27th, 1933

Passed on: October 20th, 2016

Jean Lemoine (born March 27, 1933) passed away peacefully on October 20, 2016 at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility in Sydney surrounded by family and those who cared about her. Growing up one of twelve siblings, being a young bride of a coal miner and having six children, Jean faced many challenges in life. She worked very hard to stretch a dollar at home and worked in a dry cleaning facility and the New Waterford hospital. Over the years, her home served as a focal point for family and friends where there was much laughter. The last part of her life found her making a difference with many special residents, care workers, nurses and doctor at Harbourstone. Jean was pre-deceased by her parents, “Grandfather” (Patrick “Paddy” Power) and “Ma” (Stella MacPherson Power); her husband, Paul J. Lemoine and siblings, Finlay, Joe, Patrick, Kevin, Leo, Cyril, Brian, Maureen, Kathleen (Babs) Theresa (TC) and James and Patricia (in infancy), as well as her grandson, Guy Lemoine and Kira Huette; great-granddaughter in infancy; son-in-law, John Goulding and friend Elmer King. Jean was presented with a 50-year pin from the Scotchtown Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary and was a member of the Scotchtown Pensioner’s Club. As a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church, Jean looked forward to reuniting with loved ones and beginning the next chapter beyond life’s frailty. She is survived by her brother, Johnnie (Leona) and her children, Carmel (Kevin), Lorne (Nina), Jimmy (Inez), Pauline Goulding, Paul (Darlene) and Darren (Debbie). Jean is also survived by numerous supportive nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and “honorary” children, Christine and many others who held a special place in her heart.
Tuesday, October 25, family and friends will gather at Chant’s Funeral Home Sydney at 12 noon to celebrate a woman who celebrated life and all that it had to offer. We will reminisce about her gorgeous smile, her welcoming heart, her zest for life, her passion for her friends, her special meals and her laugh that bubbled up from the very depths of her soul and lit up the world. The service will be at 2 p.m. Internment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in New Waterford. In lieu of flowers, it would be wonderfully appropriate for those who want to remember her strong spirit to make a donation to the charity of your choice or to
perform a small act of kindness for someone – feed anyone who might be hungry, as Jean would have done.
