Randy Frizzell
Randy Frizzell, 45 of Moncton passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Sunday, October 23, 2016 surrounded by his family after a lifelong battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Pauline (Goguen) and George Frizzell. Randy’s story is a pretty amazing one. At the age of 18 months Randy had both his eyes removed due to cancer. But don’t think for one minute that being blind his whole life stopped him from living life to the fullest every day. We always say Randy did more as a blind person then we ever did as a sighted person. He graduated from Harrison Trimble then went on to graduate from NBCC and then worked at UPS. You could always see Randy strolling down Main Street, hanging out with his friends at Bubba Rays, Wize Guys or taking part in Karaoke at Morton’s Pub. But the one thing Randy took great pride in was his volunteer work. Whether it was for Red Cross or CNIB or the many other places he would give his time, Randy loved to give back. Randy had an amazing sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. One of his dark days through this whole cancer journey he was pretty down and it bothered him because he said I make people laugh, that is my role. And a role he certainly lived up to no matter what he was dealing with in his own life. He had a comeback and a one liner for everything (right Dr Phalen!). Randy’s cancer came back 4 years ago. He underwent 2 major surgeries, several rounds of chemo, countless number of tests but not once did he ever complain. Oh yes he got frustrated especially when he was too weak to go visit his friends at the bar. His whole life he had to fight. Whether it was the cancer, going away to school for the blind at the age of 5, coming back as a teen and going to public school, depression, anxiety, frustration, challenges, it didn’t matter what life threw at him he was going to fight. And that he did for 45 years. His journey on earth may be done but he will live on in our memories. We will miss him dearly but we take great comfort in knowing he is now in the arms of our mother again where he no longer has to fight. He was certainly an inspiration to all of us. He is survived by his father George, Brother Ron (Charlene), sisters Dana Cormier and Kelly Cormier (Sam), his nephew Trevor, nieces Ashley (Rob), Brittany (Jude), Kaitlyn and Zoe as well as his great nephew Landon and great niece Peyton. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins however a few special ones we have to mention are Vernon & Glenda Frizzell, Ralph & Eva Frizzell, Phyllis Perry, Melony Perry, Mary Wilson and his very special cousin Jon Wilson (Leslie). He also leaves to mourn some very special friends Trisha Cormier, Bob Bannister, Gina & Shilo Bellis, Daniel & Michelle Richards as well as his girlfriend Kim Donald and her son Matthew. The family would like to thank everyone that was involved in Randy’s healthcare. Randy had doctor’s involved in his case from all over Canada and the USA. His case was anything but normal. But if you knew Randy you would know that fits him perfectly. But a few people we would like to publicly thank is the extra mural staff especially Amanda Cleary, Dr Mansfield, Dr Searle, Dr Murkerjee, staff of 6600 (oncology), Moncton Hospital Palliative care team, oncology clinic staff, Crystal, Lisa, Tracey Firlotte Allen (not sure what I would have done without you through this whole thing), Dr Salam, Dr Allard, Dr Adenuga, Dr Filice and Kim Hutton. But 3 people we really need to mention because they were clearly Randy’s angels on earth…Dr Pat Phalen, Anne-Marie LeBlanc and Dr Mark Taylor. We cannot thank you guys enough for everything you did for Randy. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview (869-2007) on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A service celebrating Randy’s life will take place from Cobb’s Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11am. The interment will take place in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Moncton Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Karing Kitchen, CNIB or donor’s choice.
