Born: July 21st, 1941

Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 22nd, 2016

Daphne died in Halifax while holidaying in Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her parents, George and Ruby (nee Young) Hynes. Deeply missed by her husband and soul mate of 53 years, Leslie Dominy; their daughters Denise (Ralph Sweet) and Leslie Ann (Brian Illion); grandchildren Hannah and Georges; and step-grandchildren Mitchell, Laura, Eric, Vivien and Eva. Also missed by her brother David; brothers-in-law Fred and Steve (Karen); and special niece Leah.
Daphne grew up on Allandale Road in St. John’s and was a proud graduate of the class of ’59 at Prince of Wales College. She adored Cape Breton, the ancestral home of her maternal relatives, the pioneering Ross family of Margaree. For the past ten summers, she walked with Les on countless miles of Highland trails and enjoyed watching eagles, moose, whales, and songbirds. Highlights of her Cape Breton summers also included weekly fiddling shows at Margaree’s ‘Barn' stage and the annual line-up of music at Celtic Colours International Festival.
In her 20s and 30s, Daphne was a devoted mother whose door was always open to her daughters’ friends. As her children moved on to university, she became a successful business woman, launching the toy store ‘Loligo for Children’ in Ottawa and ‘Jubilee Cottage Country Inn’ in Wallace, NS. Loved by many, she will be missed.
A memorial service to celebrate Daphne’s life will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Hamilton Avenue, on Saturday, November 12th at 2:00pm. Donations in memory of Daphne may be made to the Vera Perlin Charitable Foundation, 6 Logy Bay Rd., St. John’s, NL A1E 3Y3.
