David Austin O'Malley-Keyes
We lost a brave, adventurous, and extraordinary soul on October 31, 2016. The son of the late Nial and Julia O’Malley-Keyes, David leaves behind many friends and family who loved him. His children Julie (Gig Harbor, WA) and Ben (Anchorage, AK), his granddaughter Gabrielle, seven brothers and sisters, Middleton (New Orleans, LA), Anthony (Halifax, NS), Julia (Falmouth, Cape Cod), Derek (Maui, HI), Rosemary (Charlottetown, PEI), Sarah (Palmer, AK), and Ian (Wilton, CT), and his nieces and nephews Kirsten O’Malley-Keyes, Sebastian O’Malley, David MacDonald, Keavy and Ian O’Malley-Keyes, Nial and Tyrrell Hughes and Megan O’Malley-Keyes, Samuel Webber, and Beckett and Brooks O’Malley. He would also want us to mention his love for Johna, his former spouse and Julie’s mother, Karl and Marion Pirch of Hermitage, PEI, and the families of the late Irene and Russell Young and Charlie and Muriel Mutch of PEI, all of whom he loved dearly. David was always making others laugh, enjoying the company of those he loved, and sharing his remarkable knowledge, amazing musical talent, and sense of humor. He lived every day like it was his last, and had an indomitable spirit and zest for life. Although David spent the majority of his time travelling all over the world and residing on the west coast, Prince Edward Island held a special place in his heart. Burial has taken place in Seattle, Washington. For those who wish to remember David, the David Austin O’Malley-Keyes Memorial Award fund has been created at the University of Prince Edward Island. Contributions may be made on line at secure.upei.ca/donate/, by mail to the Department of Development and Alumni Engagement, 550 University Avenue, Charlottetown, PE C1A 1Y2, or by phone (902) 894-2888. Gifts from US sources can be made through the UPEI US Foundation. To all those who loved him like we did, thank you for being a part of David’s life. He will watch over us from the “other side” (his words), and we will miss him tremendously.
