With broken hearts we announce the passing of James Albert Fleming, 84, on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late James and Jane (MacDonald) Fleming. Jim was a lifelong resident of Pellett Avenue, New Waterford. In younger years, Jim served in the Airforce and later worked in the coal mines until his retirement. Jim was a loyal and contributing member of the New Waterford Pensioners' Club. Some of Jim's favorite pastimes were playing golf, darts and bowling. He also loved playing cards with his buddies at the Pensioners' Club. Jim read a great number of books in his lifetime. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and being in the fresh air sitting on his swing. Jim is survived by his daughter, Margie Legere (Rick), Amherst, N.S.; son, Jimmy (April), New Waterford; grandchildren, Troy, Keera, Austin, Aiden; great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Tyler, Jayce, Evan, Aleena, Everly; sister, Anita (Stan) Burke, New Waterford; brothers, Dennis and Joe, Ontario; sister-in-law, Annie Mae (Ray) MacKenzie. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn 'Evie' Fleming; brother, Gerald and sister, Catherine 'Kitty' Bauld. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
