Eleanor Knelsen

Eleanor Elizabeth Knelsen passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK on November 2, 2016 at the age of 72. Eleanor was born in Regina on July 4, 1944 to David & Susanna Wiens. She married Joe Knelsen on August 6, 1960 at the First United Church in Swift Current, SK. Eleanor worked at the Wymark School, Swift Current Care Center, the Palliser Regional Care Centre, and at the Bentley. She lived in Wymark for most of her life and was a devoted member and treasurer of the Wymark Emmaus Mennonite Church. Together with her husband, they were involved in numerous activities with their church family. Eleanor led a Children’s Hour class, taught 4H sewing, and worked on a Wymark Cookbook. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, family history, and loved visiting — she spent many mornings enjoying the company of the community at the Wymark Rink coffee house. Eleanor is survived by her children, Perry Knelsen, and Laura (Martin) Envik; her siblings, Ed (Leona) Wiens, Anna (John) Fehr, and Johnny Wiens; her numerous nieces and nephews; and by her extended family, Mike & Melody Dugauy and their children, Joni, Emilie, Naomi, Joseph, and Kevin. Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband, Joe Knelsen, on January 28, 2002. The funeral service was held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 1:30 pm from Zion Mennonite Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Mike Duguay officiating. Freed Heese led the congregation in singing “In the Rifted Rock I’m Resting,” “Under His Wings,” and “How Great Thou Art” with Gaylia Wiens serving as pianist. The Eulogy was given by Ray Friesen, who also did the Scripture reading. Ronald Dyck and Clarence Dyck served as ushers at the church. Eleanor was laid to rest at the Wymark Cemetery with Michael Wiens, Steven Wiens, Edward Fehr, Daniel Fehr, Dylan Wall, and Evan Emperingham serving as pallbearers. In memory of Eleanor Knelsen, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of the Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
