Peter Hrenyk

Passed on: October 31st, 2016

Peter Hrenyk, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2016, in his room at the Central Haven Special Care Home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife, Marjorie Rose, in 2012. He is mourned by his children, Beverly (Larry) Coates, Darryl (Tammy) Hrenyk, Kevin (Nicole) Hrenyk, and his grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Jordyn, Ryan, Samuel, Darryl, and Jayden. Peter was born on November 26, 1923, in Ratner, Saskatchewan to parents, Lucy and Mike Hrenyk. He attended school, completing grade 8, before leaving to farm alongside his father. He enjoyed his education and always regretted that he was unable to continue. He remained an avid reader and filled the home he and Marge made with books, books and more books. His love of books and learning was a legacy he gave to his children and grandchildren. Peter married the love of his life, Marjorie, on November 24, 1963. Together they created a loving home for their three children on the family farm. Peter loved farming but encouraged his children to earn a good education and find their future in the city. This he believed would give them a better life, an easier life. He and Marjorie remained on the farm until 2004, when they moved to Saskatoon to be closer to some of their children and grandchildren. Life changed for Peter after disease took Marge from him in 2012. Although surrounded by the love of his children and grandchildren, he mourned his wife of 48 years. Now he and Marjorie rest, awaiting their shared hope of and faith in, a blessed resurrection morning and eternity together. Peter enjoyed reading, music, and sports. He knit scarves, mittens, socks, sweaters, and siwashes. Peter also enjoyed working with wood and built furniture for his home and toys for his grandchildren. Peter is also survived, and mourned, by his siblings: Sophie Hrenyk, Velma (Ed) Stringer, Ruth (Elias) Korlischuk, Jim (Bea) Hrenyk, and Jean (René) Poisson. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Hrenyk. A small Graveside Service was held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon. The family ask that anyone wanting to make a donation in Peter's memory consider the Canadian Bible Society in honour of his Christian faith, your local library because he loved learning and believed in education, or the Central Haven Special Care Home in Saskatoon where loving and kind people cared for him during his last year of life. Arrangements entrusted to Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre (306-955-1600). Those wishing to sign the guest book may do so online at www.acadiamckaguesfuneralcentre.com
