ROSEMARIE SMITH (Heward)
1945-2016
Rosemarie Smith of Moose Jaw passed away on November 3, 2016 at the age of 71. Born May 14, 1945 to Ray and Ivy (McKinnon) Heward of Brandon, Manitoba. She was raised and educated in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She married Tom on June 27, 1964 and they moved to Moose Jaw in 1975. Rose is predeceased by her mother in 1991, father in 2000 and her beloved dog Shelley in 2004, a companion for 18 years. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Wendy (Mark) Dreger grandchildren Jacob, Jared and Jordan, daughter Kara (Marty) Veltman; granddaughters Kayla, Laura and Xena; son Brad (Doreen) Smith, grandson Tristan; brother Cyril (Gloria) Heward of Chaplin and Brian Heward of Brandon, MB. Rose enjoyed sewing, crafts and involvement with Brownies and Guides holding leader roles in both, and was Commissioner for South Hill Groups. Rose opened a home daycare and completed Early Childhood Education at SIAST after her family was grown. The children who spent their formative years in her home brought laughter and joy. Education was important to Rose, she was extremely proud of Brad obtaining his Bachelor’s degree, as well as Wendy studying to become a Driver Education Instructor and starting her own business. Rose loved to Travel, Tom and Rose travelled to Brazil, Mexico, Jamaica, Germany and cruised the Caribbean. They also camped in three western provinces. As per Rose’s wishes there will be no service and her ashes will be returned to the province she loved – Manitoba. In lieu of flowers/gifts please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society. Special thank you to Dr. Salim and staff at the Allan Blair Cenre, Dr. Konkin of Moose Jaw and to the nurses of the Women’s Ward at Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw.
