BOURQUE, E. Doris – age 91, The Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth, formerly of Sluice Point, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2016 at The Meadows. Born August 14, 1925 in Sluice Point, she was a daughter of the late Levy and Odille (Surette) Pothier. Aside from being a homemaker, in her younger years Doris worked as a waitress at the Diamond Café in Yarmouth, as well as in the housekeeping department at Braemar Lodge. She was a member of Holy Family parish as well as a member of the Indian Sluice Seniors’ Club. She was passionate about playing cards and bingo, and looked forward to her morning visits with her sister Juliette prior to Doris moving to the nursing home. Doris is survived by two sons, Neil (Janice) Bourque, Morris Island and Charles (Lisette) Bourque, Sluice Point, as well as by her grandchildren, Heather, Shawn, Josué, Rémi and Noé. Also surviving is a sister, Juliette Bourque and a brother, Gustave (Sylvette) Pothier. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, J.R. “Isidore” Bourque, a son, Shawn J. Bourque, as well as by siblings Marion Simmons, Laura Pyne, Abel Pothier, Clifford Pothier, Donald Pothier, Mathilda Pothier, Pauline Pothier who died in childhood and Bernard Pothier who died in infancy, as well as by a brother-in-law, Bruno Bourque. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Amirault’s Hill, Father Maurice LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Doris may be made to The Meadows Home for Special Care (Brook House) or to the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund.
