JANET MARIE DONOVAN

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt after a long battle with Alzheimers. Born in Digby, Janet was the daughter of the late Leander and Violet Handspiker. Janet is survived by her husband, Carl of 56 years, Ingonish Harbour; son, David and his wife Francene (Janet’s angel) and granddaughters, Krista (Charlie Fitzgerald) and Megan (Travis Reid) all of Neil’s Harbour; sisters, Vicki (Fred Bates), Digby and Betty Jackson, Bridgewater, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Adelia and brothers, Jackie and David. Janet worked for many years at the Scotia Bank, Ingonish Beach Branch before retirement. Janet's “Gram” love was her granddaughters (Sunshine Butt and Chickedee) who will miss her dearly and her dog, Susie. She loved to knit and it showed in the many sweaters, mitts, etc. that her girls wore over the years. She loved to play bingo and watch games shows. The Donovan family would like to thank the staff of Highland Manor for their excellent care of Janet since May. As per Janet’s request there will be no visitation or service. Committal prayers will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016 at 2 p.m., in St. Peter's parish cemetery, Ingonish. Memorial donations in Janet’s memory may be made to the Highland Manor, Neil’s Harbour.
