EMMA JANE LELOUP

Passed on: November 14th, 2016

Emma Jane LeLoup passed away peacefully at Harbourstone Enhanced Care on November 14, 2016 at the age of 93. A well-known local artist, Emma was a founding member of the New Waterford Arts Council and lifetime member of the Cape Breton Artists Association. She taught art classes for many years at the CB School of Crafts and with the New Waterford Continuing Education Program. Emma was employed at Victory Aircraft in Toronto during the war, and ever since told stories of the Lancaster; anyone who has watched ‘The Bomb Girls’ on TV can relate. Emma’s cooking and baking for family and friends was important to her, and she was known to keep treats in Harbourstone to offer to any guests that visited. She was a member of the United Church Women in Scotchtown and later Calvin Hall. She was a lifetime member of Jubilee Rebekah Lodge #14 in Glace Bay. Emma was the daughter of the late Archie and Beatrice (Pettigrew) MacNevin. Twice married, she was predeceased by husband, Alex Molloy and husband, John LeLoup, as well as her brother, Alcorn (Josephine). She is survived by sisters, Kathryn Clarke, Toronto (Aubrey, deceased) and Jeanette White (Tom); daughter, Marie (retired colonel); son, John (Brenda); granddaughter, Jillian (Matt); grandson, Gregory (Elyse) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Harbourstone for taking such great care of Emma in her final years.
Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will take place at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500 on Wednesday, November 16 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. A small reception will be held afterward at Calvin United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emma’s name to Calvin United Church in New Waterford or CNIB.
