KENZIEVILLE – Robert Eric Charles Hamper, 65, one of the binding links of his family, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in the Infirmary, QEII, Halifax.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Frank Herbert and Nina Jean (Pushie) Hamper.
Prior to retirement, Robert was employed with Stora Enso for over 30 years as a machine operator in the Woodlands Department. He was currently employed part-time as a machine operator with Next Generation Forest Management Ltd. Robert was a member and Elder of Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville.
He was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf, Blue Jay and Raptors fan. Robert greatly enjoyed playing lob ball and was captain of the Stray Cats for many years. He was instrumental in the creation of the Kenzieville Ball Field. Robert enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a fan of the Earnhardt’s, senior and junior.
Above all, he loved his family dearly. Robert was a loving husband, father, Pa, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his wife and “best bud” of 43 years, Anna Lee (Sutherland); daughter, Jennifer (James) Cooley, Thorburn; sons, Jody (Tracy) Hamper, Kenzieville; Rodney (Meagan) Hamper, Petitcodiac, N.B.; grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Cooley, Marlee and Madison Hamper, Alexis, Zachary and Nicholas Hamper; sisters, Gerry (Bert) Quinn, New Glasgow; Ida Sarty, Antigonish; Marilyn (Lee) Joyce, Mount William; brother, Frank (Phillip) Hamper, Plainfield, Ont.; step-brother, William DuBay, Dartmouth; brothers-in-law, Donnie Bannerman, Mount Adam; Johnnie Sutherland (Linda), New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Irene Sutherland (Doug), New Glasgow; aunts, Eileen Adams, Antigonish; Adelaide Adams, Cambridge, Mass.; Margie Adams, Scarborough, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mom, Geraldine (DuBay); brother, John “Sonny” Hamper; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Violet Sutherland; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Hamper and Evelyn Bannerman; brother-in-law, Jim Sarty.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Barney’s River Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Interment will be in Kenzieville Cemetery.
Family flowers only. In keeping with Robert’s ever present spirit of kind-heartedness an act of kindness to another person, no matter how small, would be most appropriate. If desired, donations may be made in Robert’s memory to Barney’s River Presbyterian Church or Kenzieville Cemetery Fund.
