SMITH, Gloria Jean – 70, Central Onslow, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at home. Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Jean (Crowe) King. In earlier years, Gloria was a school teacher in East Hants and River Hebert. She was a life-time member of Trinity United Church where she was a CGIT leader for many years, member of the UCW and was the social co-ordinator. She was involved with the MS Society for many years, vice president of Onslow Island Cemetery Corporation and was a great supporter of many older members of the community. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Mike); son, Kirby, Central Onslow; grandchildren, Brianna and Emily; brother, Carman (Louise), Halifax; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jamie, whom she cared for many years; granddaughter, Alyssa. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Gloria’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., today, Thursday, November 17, 2016. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, November 18, 2016, at Trinity United Church, 415 Onslow Road, Upper Onslow, Reverend Glenn MacLean officiating. Interment in Onslow Island Cemetery.
