It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Gary Allister Henderson announces his passing, occurring November 22, 2016 at the Colchester Regional Hospital.
Born June 26, 1954 in Pictou, Gary was the son of Allister and Jean (Sutherland) Henderson. After attending Agricultural College he went on to become well known in the agricultural community. Living in Toney River, Gary was often found on the family farm, becoming co-owner with his wife Darlene of The Pork Shop in Denmark, and later New Glasgow. He loved vehicles, books, hunting, fishing and puttering around on his 4 wheeler. His true love was people. He loved to talk to people anywhere and everywhere making many life-long friends along the way, especially his camp buddies and fishermen friends. Gary is survived by his mother, Jean; wife, Darlene (Brenton); daughters, Amanda (Chad Bolton) and Laura; son, Matthew (Jenna Splane); his grandchildren the loves of his life, Callie and Brody Henderson; sister, Gloria ‘Glo’ (Richy Gammon); also nephews, Dana Gammon (Sarah MacAloney) and Ryan Gammon (Julie-Anne Des Roches); father-in-law Gordon Brenton; sister-in-law, Kathy; nieces, Jennifer Fraser, Stefanie Fraser, and great nieces and nephews, Paige and Carter Gammon; Elizabeth and Victoria Fraser; Tristan and Rayna Fraser. He was predeceased by his father, Allister Henderson; mother-in-law, Ethel Brenton; and his Sutherland and Henderson grandparents. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, November 25th in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will be held Saturday, November 26th at 2 PM from St. David’s Presbyterian Church in Toney River. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Riverbank Cemetery or The Lodge That Gives.
