Annie Veinotte
Annie Veinotte, aged 87, passed away peacefully at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, NS on Thursday, November 24, 2016 with her family at her side. She was born November 8, 1929 to William and Mary (Yurchesyn) Furdas and grew up in Whitney Pier in a close-knit, loving family. She was especially close to John and Mena Yurchesyn.
Annie will be sadly missed by her son, Laurence (Margaret), NY; daughters, Ruth (Tom) MacDowell, Amherst, Rachel (Cameron) Andrea, Coxheath and Rebecca, AB; grandchildren, Sarah, Jonathan, Heather, Patricia, Natalia, Jacob, Matthew, David, Laura and Rachel; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Dilney, Nellie Penney, Ruby Antle, ON, Marie (Karl) Halloran, Natalie (Vince) MacLean and brothers, John, Michael (Sharon), ON, Walter (Lauren) and sister-in-law, Marcie. Annie was pre-deceased by her parents; her brothers, Joseph and Gordon; son, Paul; grandsons, Rob and Jonathan and brothers-in-law, John Dilney and Cliff Penney. Annie was always in good humor and greeted everyone with her wonderful and welcoming smile. She was loving, kind and always reached out to others. Her career involved many positions over the years, including at the Cape Breton Business College, the Boys and Girls Club in Saint John, NB, the Bedford Institute of Oceanography and Nova Scotia Power in Halifax before her retirement in 1989. Annie was ahead of her time and balanced a busy work life with a wonderful family life. A beloved mother to her children and ‘Baba’ to her grandchildren, the family enjoyed many summers in Iona at their summer home. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held at SW Chant & Son Funeral Home at 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney on Tuesday, November 29 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the chapel on November 30 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society Canada or a charity of choice.
