SWANSON, Arnold
October 20, 1928 – November 28, 2016
Arnold passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital during the early morning hours of November 28, 2016. Arnold was born in Eston, SK, the youngest child of Anton and Thyra Swanson. Dad grew up on the family farm in the Neosho School District, where he enjoyed “the good life” as we so often heard throughout the years. Since the age of 15, Dad was on his own after the loss of his Mother. Dad worked throughout Alberta, either driving truck or working at McIntyre Ranch south of Lethbridge, AB. During the winter of 1947-48, Dad worked on a thoroughbred ranch outside of Los Angeles, CA. In 1953, Dad met Mom at a Halloween dance in Lethbridge. They were married December 12 of that year. Dad started in the plumbing trade in 1949, which he stayed with until 1986 when he and mom moved to Bjorkdale, SK. They farmed in the area until 1995 when they moved to Saskatoon where they lived until his passing. Arnold is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Edna; sons, Dave (Barb) of Madden, AB, Lee of Surbiton, SK and Shane (Rene) of Red Deer; daughter, Sandra (Russ) Friesen of Saskatoon, SK; grandchildren, Garth Dyment, Ryan and Kyler Swanson, Megan (Addison) Reid, Erica Blewitt, Taylor and Alex Friesen; great grandchildren, Xavier and Archer Reid; sister-in-law, Joyce Swanson of Crossfield, AB; brother-in-law, Bill (Joan) Guskjolen of Saskatoon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Arnold is predeceased by his brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank the doctors and angelic nurses on the 6th and 7th floors of St. Paul’s Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Carley Brown, Hillcrest Funeral Home, Saskatoon, SK (306-477-4400).
