Passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the age of 90, Frederick D Balsom, formerly of Clarenville. Predeceased by his parents Alfred John Balsom and Nellie (Mills); his first wife, Dora (Ellis) Balsom; brothers, Ralph, Dave, and Lin; step-brother, Reg Burton; sisters, Florence (Davy) Marsh, Patricia (Jake) Ellis, and Ann (Clayton) Sheppard. Leaving behind, with a wealth of precious memories: wife, Eva (Rideout) Balsom; son, Onnie Balsom (Brenda); step-son, Dale Rideout (Marie); step-daughter, Danielle Hornell (Dave); grandchildren: Stephen Balsom (Barbara), Glen Rideout (Susie), David Rideout (Candace) , David Hornell (Sarah), and Daniel Hornell; great-grandchildren: Thomas Balsom, Foster Rideout, Jacob and Isabella Rideout, Victor Dignard (his mom Darlene Small) and Lucas Small (his parents Dean and Kerry Small); sisters Alfreda Rideout (Melvin deceased) and Carolyn Petten (Lester deceased); sisters-in-law Jean Balsom, Shirley Balsom, Elise Balsom, Rebie Burton and Louise Smith and a large circle of family and friends. Fred was very passionate about giving back to his church and community. Throughout the years, Fred was a member of the 1st Salvation Army band, Clarenville; Councillor, Town of Clarenville; Member of the United Church Choir, Bishop's Falls; President of Kinsmen Club; Councillor, Town of Bishop's Falls; former Fire Chief, Bishop's Falls. At Evangel Pentecostal Church, Fred was a devoted member of Men's Fellowship, the church choir, and the men's singing group. For many years, Fred was also a very active member of the Gideons. In recent years, while struggling with his failing health, he devoted many hours building model fishing dories to raise funds for the dialysis unit of the South and Central Health Foundation, Grand Falls-Windsor. In addition to his love of woodworking, Fred had a passion for fishing; especially salmon fishing on the Exploits River. Special thanks to all of the wonderful staff of the dialysis unit whom he considered family. We appreciate their love and constant dedication while he was in their care. Rested at Hoskin's Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Visitation took place on Friday, December 9. Funeral service took place on Saturday, December 10 at 2pm from Evangel Pentecostal Tabernacle, Grenfell Heights. Interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Bishop's Falls.
