Anne (MacKay) MacLeod, 89, a life-long resident of Grand River, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully, at Strait Richmond Hospital on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Born March 24, 1927, in Grand River Falls, N.S. to the late Archie and Dora (Kemp) MacKay, Anne was the eldest of four children.
She was an extremely hard-working and community oriented woman, who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She married Duncan ‘D.D.’ MacLeod in 1949 and together they had six children. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend. For over fifty-two years, she was employed by Canada Post as Grand River’s postmistress, retiring in 2004 at the age of 77. Until 1999, Anne also owned and operated the Grand River General Store with her husband, D.D. She was a member of the Grand River Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Grand River Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her children, Carol Anne (Dank) MacInnis, West Bay, Joyce MacLeod, Grand River, Parker (Patsy) MacLeod, Sydney, Gail (Glen) MacDonald, Sydney and Faye (Kenny Sampson) MacLeod, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Jennifer and Allister MacInnis, Amy and Megan MacDonald, Matthew, Melanie and MacKenzie Sampson; brother, W. D. ‘Buddie’ (Shirley) MacKay, Grand River and many nieces and nephews.
Anne was predeceased by her husband, Duncan Donald ‘D.D.’ (2000); son, Roger (2005); sisters, Frances MacKay (2006) and Margo MacKillop (2008).
Visitation will take place at the Grand River Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 16 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Grand River Presbyterian Church on Saturday 2 p.m., with Rev. Corrie Stewart and Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment in Grand River Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society, Grand River Cemetery, Grand River Presbyterian Church, Grand River Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
