It is with great sadness that the family of Donna Joy Murdock, Truro announces her passing December 11, 2016 in the Q.E. II Health Center, Halifax. Donna was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose commitment and love for her family was the focus of her life. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia she was the youngest daughter of Lorin and Eva (Doherty) Goodwin. Donna was predeceased by her loving husband Bill, daughter Sabrina (Bree), her siblings Kenneth, Eileen (Bill Taylor), Constance (Fred Fisher), and Gladys (Don MacFarlane). She is survived by her loving daughter Joy; son-in-law, Bill; grandson, Nicholas; sisters in-law, Helen Murdock and Marie Cooper, many nieces, nephews and extended family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ryan Sommers, Dr. Reeza Sahali, and Dr. Catherine Ellis for their kind and compassionate care of this lovely lady. Donna attended Business College and worked as a court stenographer in Amherst. She married the love of her life and moved to Truro. Donna was an investment property owner, operated her own clothing business, Joy-Ann Dress shop. In the early 1970’s Donna entered into a career in real estate, working for Stevens Realty. In the 1980’s Donna became the first female real estate broker in Truro, owning and operating College Town Realty. Donna loved to curl, golf, and attending the First Baptist Church. Donna loved to play bridge. Her wonderful bridge buddies were so kind, enriching Donna’s life with stories of family and friendship. Donna’s world revolved around her beautiful daughters and grandson. Her world was perfect when Joy, Bree, Nicholas and Bill would sit in front of a fire with guitars, singing, playing games, and enjoying her home. Christmas will be a little sadder without this beautiful lady in our lives. Donna will be remembered for her wink, her smile, her wit, her gentle touch, her kind words, her loving hand, her strength in the face of life’s toughest foes, her guidance, and her love of life. Donna loved everyone and especially her little Maggie who was always at her side looking for a treat or someone to throw a ball. A celebration of Donna’s life will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church, Prince Street, Truro, reception to follow at the church. Family flowers only.
