Janet Marie Morris

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Marie Morris on December 16, 2016 at The Ottawa Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Janet (born January 1947) peacefully passed away in the arms of her loved ones. Cherished mother of Catherine Parent (Juan Recinos) and beloved wife of David Millette. Janet was predeceased by her parents, Edward Morris and Nancy Morris, and brothers, Charles Morris and Edmund Morris. Survived by siblings, Mabel Sylliboy, Vera Sylliboy, Arlene Johnson, Adrian Morris, George Morris and James Morris, and many nieces and nephews from Eskasoni, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Janet will be deeply missed by all those who loved her as well as those who were privileged to have known her. Janet was born and raised in Eskasoni, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and re-established herself in Ottawa shortly after graduating from Cape Breton Business College. As a proud Mi’kmaq, she dedicated herself to the Canada-Indigenous relationship throughout her career. The family wishes to extend much gratitude to the medical and nursing personnel at The Ottawa Hospital and home care nurses from Saint-Elizabeth. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue (east of Vanier Parkway) Ottawa on Wednesday December 21, 2016 after 12:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Sacred Space at 2 p.m. In memory of Janet, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
