Mr. David Howe, of Marcelin passed away peacefully at the Wheatland Lodge in Leask, Saskatchewan on December 12, 2016 at 95 years. David was born in Oyen, Alberta to his Mom, Jennie Howe (nie Wong) and his father, Wong Get Howe and soon after moved to Blaine Lake where his sister, Pearl, was born. The family started the Star Café in Marcelin in 1923. David was predeceased by his Mother and Father and sister and brother-in-law, Dr. George Wong. David is survived by his loving nephews: Larry & Ann Wong (Komoka, ON)-Jeremy (Elizabeth) & Espen,-Darren & Andrew; Dr. David & Ann Wong (Indianapolis, Indiana)-Ryan & Taylor (Katelyn); Robert & Peggy Wong (Barrie, ON)-Jennifer & Michael. David had an enriched life with his spiritual faith with the Anglican Church. He built his reputation as “Mr. Hospitality” during his 79 years in the family Star Café business that expanded over the decades to include radios, televisions, appliances, a lottery terminal and his most prized venture, the regional “golf pro shop”. He was blessed by friendship of his regional families and was honored with the Accent Tourism Award, Lieutenant Governor’s Canada 125 medal, Order of Saskatchewan and in 2015 as Marcelin’s HomeTown Hero sponsored by CTV. He touched many people with his generosity and kindness on earth and even the universe when his name was included on the Mars Rover in 2003 that continues to explore Mars even to this day. A community memorial service will be held in the spring/summer of 2017. Donations can be made to Wheatland Lodge or Marcelin Seniors Centre.
