Rose Marie Thompson

It is with gratitude for her life and sadness at our loss, her family announces the peaceful passing of a special mother, grandmother and friend, Rose Marie Thompson (Melanson, Lines), 86 at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre, Amherst, NS on December 20, 2016.
Born in Amherst, in 1930, she was the daughter of the late Edna Melanson. Rose was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Lines, of Amherst, in 1982, and her second husband Lorne Thompson of Oxford in 2006.
She is survived and missed by her sons and families, Glen (Gillian) Lines and grandson Michael from Calgary and Gary (Brenda) Lines and granddaughter, Katherine from Halifax, as well as her furry friend Toby.
Rose graduated from St. Charles High School with business skills that got her exciting work writing for the Amherst Daily News, where she met and married Harold. After raising her sons for 10 years, she returned to the work place as a receptionist for Dr. Meyers and later for Dr. Taj.
By the time she retired, she had moved to Havelock Terrace, where, 10 years later, she met and married Lorne Thompson.
During those years she developed many friendships at Havelock Terrace and working with parishioners at Holy Family Church. At her passing, she was the longest residing tenant at Havelock Terrace.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where cremation has taken place. A devout Catholic, Rose's passing will be honoured by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church on December 28, 2016 at 11 am, Rev. Father Keith Billard officiating, followed by a reception hosted by the CWL. Burial will take place in the St. Charles~Nativity Cemetery in the spring.
If so desired donations in Rose's memory may be made to the Cumberland Co. Hospice/Palliative Care Society, or the charity of your choice.
