Margaret Florence Boyce

Margaret Florence Boyce – Truro. Marg died December 30th in Truro, Nova Scotia where she lived most of her life. Born in Truro on May 5, 1926, the daughter of the late Lauchlin and Florence (Weatherbee) MacDonald. Marg worked as a hairdresser and at Atlantic Electric before she was married. Once her children were in school, she worked at Sears, Lloyd Smith’s, and at the switchboard at the Colchester Regional Hospital. She was a member of First United Church where she served as an Elder, on the Board of Stewards, and was a member of the UCW. She became a member of the Rebekah Lodge, IOOF, in 1954, serving in many offices and went on to become President of the Rebekah Assembly of the Atlantic Provinces. Marg was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Patriarchs Militant, serving in many offices as well as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jurisdiction of the Atlantic Provinces. She traveled to many International meetings, meeting people from all over Canada and the United States. Marg was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 Ladies Auxiliary since 1965 where she served on many committees, and as President in 1974 and 1975. She became an Associate Member of the Legion in 1980 where she served on the Poppy Committee and as Chairman of the Sick and Visiting Committee for many years. Marg was active on many committees of the Douglas Street School Parent Teachers Association. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlework, and was well known for her Christmas Village. Along with her husband Ron, Marg enjoyed travelling across North America and their home was always open to friends from all over to stop for a cup of tea or a bed for the night. Marg was very proud of her children and their families and always loved it when they met together over a bite to eat. Marg is survived by her five children, twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren: son, Ron and wife Susan (Grande Prairie, AB), their children Blythe Froh and husband Ian and children Liam and Katherine, Aimee Desiatnyk and husband Ryan and children Ella and Aliyah; daughter, Leslie Burrows and husband Jim (Green Oak, NS), their children Hannah, Catherine and partner Kevin, Alexander and fiancée Lacey; son, Jim and wife Barb (Onslow, NS) and their children Jennifer Harvey and husband Chad and son Valeryk, Michael and wife Sam and daughter Sierra; son, Peter and wife Lani (Victoria, BC) and their children Robyn Condron and husband Ian, Alex and partner Mariah, Cameron; son, Tom and partner Kelly (Valley, NS) and his children Rachel, Scott and partner Brandi. Marg is also survived by her brother, Lauchie MacDonald (Chester) and brothers and sisters in-laws: Doug, Charlie and wife Dell, Flo Weatherbee and husband Vince, Ralph and partner Audrey, Grace, Sydney and wife Irene, George and wife Linda. Marg was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Frank Boyce on May 3rd, great-granddaughter Bryanna Froh; sister-in-law Vivian MacDonald, as well as many members of Ron’s family. At the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, a Rebekah Tribute Service will begin on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service at 6:45 p.m. followed by visitation until 9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 4th, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
