Leonard Warren Sabine of Swift Current passed away peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital on December 24, 2016 at the age of 97. Leonard was born to the late Percy and Mabel Sabine on September 14, 1919 on the farm in the Neidpath area. He fell in love with a neighbour girl, Myrtle Grinder, and they were married August 2, 1940 in Swift Current. Shortly after, the war called them away and they were stationed in Debert, Nova Scotia for two and a half years. Following the war they farmed and raised their family in the Neidpath area. Upon retirement they moved to Swift Current in 1983. Leonard was always ready to serve the community in whatever role he was needed. Some of these were Luxor School board trustee, Neidpath telephone committee, Sask. Wheat Pool committee, councillor for the R.M. of Coulee, first bus driver in the area which spanned 18 years, and he was active in the Hallonquist Evangelical Church congregation and choir. He also worked for Sask. Crop Insurance for a number of years, where he made new friends and got to see a lot of country. Upon retirement to Swift Current he continued to commute to the farm to help. He joined Kiwanis Prairie Pioneers and kept active doing volunteer work in the city. Leonard is survived by his daughters: Myrna (Ed) Busse, grandchildren Cheryl (Dave) Bulbeck, Kevin (Tammy) Busse; Donna (Don) Lopeter, grandchildren Murray (Wendy) Weston, Trevor (Theresa) Weston, Tara (Shaun) Glydon; Janice (Guy) Denton grandchildren Randy (Dalles) Denton, Greg (Alison) Denton; sons: Wayne (Barb) Sabine grandchildren Jacquie (Stacy) Bolton, Michael (Tricia) Sabine; Keith Sabine grandchildren Jeff (Sarah) Sabine, Ramie (Shawn) Poh; 21 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Leonard is also survived by sister-in-law Jennie Fontaine and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Myrtle of almost 76 years of marriage, who passed away in April 2016, and his parents, parents-in-law, two brothers and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and granddaughter Jacqueline Dawn Weston (1968). A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 4, 2017 from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The organist was Arlie Neufeld and a solo by Bob Neufeld. Life tribute to Grandpa was presented by Cheryl Bulbeck and Jacquie Bolton. The Interment Service will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current. Leonard will forever be treasured in the hearts of his family and friends.
