Mary Elizabeth Fagan

Mary Elizabeth Fagan passed away suddenly at Oakwood Manor January 03, 2017. Born in Sydney on July 11, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alban and Esther (Lee) Fagan. Mary graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay as a Registered Nurse and from St. Francis Xavier University with an education degree. She taught nursing in St. Rita Hospital and nursed in Sydney, New York, Boston, Newfoundland and Halifax. She taught at several schools in the Dartmouth School District, including Bel Ayr, Southdale, Penhorn -Woodlawn and Bi-Centennial, retiring in 1991. Mary was a former member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney and a faithful member of St. Peter’s in Dartmouth for almost 40 years and a member of the CWL. Mary enjoyed family gatherings, was a great cook and many friends and family enjoyed her culinary delights. She loved to travel and had many trips to Europe and throughout North America. She was an avid reader and kept up with current events. Mary was the last surviving member of her family and was predeceased by her six brothers, Michael, Henry, Edgar, Alphonse, James and John and her only sister, Margaret. She was a gentle soul who lived her life with kindness, charity and forgiveness. In Mary’s memory please do an act of kindness. She is survived by sister-in-law, Teresa, (Alphonse) and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and her dearest friend, Brenda MacNeil and family. Visitation will be at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St. Dartmouth, Monday, January 9th from 7-9 with a mass of Christian burial at St. Peter’s Church, Dartmouth Tuesday January 10th at 11 a.m. Family and friends will gather at T.W. Curry’s in Sydney, Saturday January 14th from 8:30- 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery at 10 a.m.
