SCHWARTZ - Emilie (Witzke) was born January 1, 1926 at Michowice, Poland to Michael and Anna Witzke. She immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1948, after being forced out of Poland with her family, near the end of WWII. Emilie married George Schwartz on November 28, 1950. They farmed together and raised their family in the Hallonquist district. In 1983 they built a house in Swift Current and semi-retired. Mom loved working outdoors, both on the land and in her large garden. As well, she was the driving force of the household. Since she raised her own chickens, ducks, geese, pork and beef, baked bread and buns, churned butter and used garden produce, Mom’s meals were truly homemade. When the weather forced Mom indoors she turned to her handiwork. Mom’s attention to detail shines in the stitches of her embroidered tea towels and piece work. Her children and grandchildren each received handmade quilts and feather pillows and everyone received a pair of knitted slippers. We are lucky, that in her gentle manner, Mom passed many of these skills down to her family. Her legacy lives on! Emilie is survived by her loving family: Ed (Donna) Schwartz, his sons – Kelly (Christie) Schwartz, Logan and Grayson and Darren (Taryn) Schwartz, Megan and Rylee; Donna’s children – Tim Funk (Jackie Currie), Quinn and Reece and Koralea (Jody) Duclos, Kolby, Karter and Kayden; Deb (Tom) Jansen, their children – Jeff (Dara) Jansen, Mike Jansen (Michelle Slade) and Heather (Shane) Moebis, Emilie and Jordan; Betty (Art) Thompson, their children – Brodie Thompson (Mel Brockman), Ashley (Avery) Allen, Bates, Julie and Claire and Landon Thompson (Cheryl Borody); and Leland (Janell) Schwartz, their children – Jennifer Schwartz and Tyrell Schwartz. A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Eastside Church of God with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. A tribute was given by grandchildren Brodie Thompson and Heather Moebis. Her grandchildren were the pallbearers. The interment took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Donations may be made to “The Meadows” for the purchase of an air bed or to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.
