Don Edgar Hiltz – age 94, of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with his family and friends providing their loving support. He was born to Edgar and Grace Hiltz (Roy) of Annapolis on March 3, 1922. He was the last of six children. The family moved to Kentville where his father was employed with the D.A.R. Don received his education at Kings County Academy, Acadia University, and the N.S. Technical College. He found employment, as a student engineer, with the D.A.R. (CPR) in Kentville then moved to Saint John, NB as Assistant to the Divisional Engineer. After subsequent moves with CPR to Sherbrooke and Montreal, Quebec, Don was transferred back to Kentville as Divisional Engineer and was to be promoted to London, Ontario. Due to family illness Don left the CPR and formed Hiltz & Seamone Co. Ltd., providing engineering services through the Annapolis Valley from Digby to Wolfville. He was a charter member of the Dukes of Kent, a member of the Anglican Church where he was a choir and council member for many years, President of the Rotary Club, and President of the Senior Citizens Committee. Upon retirement from Hiltz & Seamone he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and spent part of his winters in Sarasota. His many blessings in life were spent with his son, Ridgely and his wives, Marion, Josephine, and Brenda, all who predeceased him. He is survived by his grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan (Alina); great grandchildren, Taylor, Janna, Kellen, and Linden; daughter-in-law, Elaine Howatt; stepchildren, Pat Holmes (Neil) and Bob Maybank (Natalie) and families; along with many special nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his very faithful companion, Kricket. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, Reverend Cathy Pharo officiating. Interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Don and family would like to thank Dr. Mullen, Rev. Cathy Pharo, Jocelyn and everyone at the Arbordale Seniors Care Home for their care and support, and all the many friends who have visited and helped over the past several months.
