In this Christmas Season, the time of the year she loved most, and surrounded by her loving family, we announce, with profound sadness, the peaceful passing of Linda Reid, a remarkable woman of personal courage and an indomitable spirit; a beautiful and loving wife, a supportive and most caring mother and mother-in-law and an absolute adoring grandmother (Nanny).

She was preceded in death by her father Rivelyn Parsons, her mother Winnie Neary, her stepfather Gerald Neary and her sister Barbara Fisher.

Bill, her husband of 47 years, will deeply miss the love of his life and never forget her. Tammy, her daughter, and her son Jonathan and Genifer, her daughter-in-law, will always remember the love and steadfast support she gave to them. Her grandchildren, Zachary, Sophia, Emma and Max will cherish forever the memories their Nanny made for them. Her loyal and loving four-legged companion, Lucy, will also miss her.

Also mourning her passing are her brother Rivelyn Parsons (Cindy) in St. John's, Newfoundland, her sister Susan Scola (Tony) in Georgetown, Ontario and her brother Rodney Parsons in Tennessee. She also leaves to mourn her stepbrother Gerald Neary, in Ottawa, Canada, her brother-in-law Jim Barnes, in Bobcaygeon, Ontario, her sister-in law Brenda Reid in Oshawa, Ontario, and her brother-in-law Derek Fisher in St. John's, Newfoundland, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins and an abundance of friends worldwide.

Linda was born in St. John's and spent the first 17 years of her life on Bell Island, a tiny island in the North Atlantic. After high school graduation she entered nursing school. In 1969, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Salvation Army Grace General Hospital School of Nursing, located in St. John's, Newfoundland.

She spent 39 years working as a RN in many areas of nursing. Her career took her to the Canadian cities of St. John's, Wabush, Labrador, Toronto and 32 years in Southern California. She retired in 2008 after 28 years in Labor and Delivery at St. Bernadine Medical Center. She was a skilled nurse who played a prominent role in the design and layout of the maternity unit at St. B's.

In Rialto, where she lived for 35 years, she played an active role in her community. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church since 1981 and was the Church Treasurer, a member of the Altar Guild, the Vestry and Daughters of the King. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Rialto for many years and helped audit the financial statements each year. She enjoyed immensely her years spent in a Gourmet Club where members met, prepared and dined on cuisine from different countries. And being a transplanted Newfoundlander, she always enjoyed meetings with her many friends in the Newfoundland Club of Southern California.

Linda was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved dancing and going to rock concerts, plays movies, art exhibits, museums and car shows. For relaxation she loved watching 50's sitcoms, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing games of every variety.

On the artistic side she was an accomplished piano player, painter, photographer and skilled in quilting, sewing and especially knitting. She was a joy to behold when involved in a knitting project. She loved to cook and bake and delighted in preparing magnificent meals for her family and friends at Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving and introducing them to the traditions of her childhood.

Family and friends were foremost to Linda. Her needs were always secondary to the needs of others. She took much joy in taking her granddaughters to tea rooms and participating in the afternoon delights of a tea party. She always enjoyed the company of her friends at the Riverside Myeloma Support Group, as well as supporting and encouraging her fellow patients at the Myeloma Institute in West Hollywood. She delighted in luncheon dates with her former co-workers at St. Bernadine's, and she never forgot her close knit nursing classmates of the Class of 69. Her trips to Canada for reunions were some of her happiest times. Cherished memories of over 20 years of family summer vacations with the McGurns to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite highlighted many summers of her life

Her travels took her and Bill to many parts of the world. Sadly, her final heavenly journey came sooner than expected. We will miss her beautiful smile, her wonderful sense of humor and her laugh. She loved to laugh a lot and her endearing personality made her many friends. Linda was a dignified, cultured, stylish women who retained her beauty to the very end. And even though she left us much too soon, she left a piece of her heart and mind in all of us who were fortunate to have known her.

We wish you God's speed Miss Linda. God's speed Linda Reid on your final heavenly journey.
